Turquoise For Weddings

Turquoise for Weddings!

"Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe."

This good-luck poem dates back to the Victorian era and is what most brides follow for good fortune on their wedding day, whether or not they are superstitious. Blue symbolizes love, modesty, fidelity and purity. This summer “something blue” appears to have changed to “something turquoise.” When Caroline Garfield lifted her wedding gown, it brought smiles to everyone’s face to see her turquoise shoes! Not only did she wear “something turquoise blue” but she showed her fashion panache. Turquoise, Pantone’s 2010 color of the year, makes an elegant bridal and fashion accent for all types of accessories.

Brides often wear a Blue Bridal Garter or incorporate blue into their floral bouquet. Now with the help of Rit Aquamarine liquid dye (available exclusively on the internet), you can add turquoise accents to your wedding celebration … whether it be a bridal garter, crinoline, beaded hand band or flower girl gloves.

Turquoise Dyed Bridal Accessories

Supplies Needed

  • Rit Aquamarine Liquid Dye
  • White Bridal Lace Garter
  • White Beaded Head Band
  • White Flower Girl Gloves
  • Measuring cup & spoon
  • Disposable shallow plastic container (6-cup)
  • Rubber gloves
  • Paper towels
  • Plastic table cover

Note: Bridal accessories must be nylon, cotton, rayon, silk or acetate to be dyed. Rit will not color 100% polyester or 100% acrylic. Rit will color beads and buttons if they are made of nylon or plastic.

Instructions

  1. Prewash bridal accessories by hand in mild soapy water and rinse. This will remove any finishes that may interfere with dye absorption.
  2. Cover your work surface with a plastic cover.
  3. Wearing rubber gloves, shake Aquamarine liquid dye bottle and measure ½ cup dye into a disposable plastic container. Add 4 cups very hot water (140° F); stir well.
Note: Test dye color by dipping a scrap of fabric or paper towel in dye solution. If color is too light, add more dye; if color is too dark, add more water.
  4. Immerse wet bridal accessories in dye solution. Stir continuously and check color frequently. Remove when desired color is achieved.
  5. Rinse bridal accessories until water runs clear. Wash in warm water with mild detergent, rinse and dry.
