Crochet A Yurt? OMG, That Is So Cool!

Edie

I so love this idea! Why not crochet yourself into your own cozy home?  That's just what Kate Pokorny is doing. Using local NH woolly goodness, she's felting up some massive cording and crocheting it into a self-supporting and, I'm guessing, quite moveable domicile dome...   a yurt to be exact!

Gi-gan-tic crochet loops!

Once she get's all the wool cleaned and felted, then comes the big job of hooking it into a crochet'd wunderhut. This is no slacker undertaking, my friends. I can't even imagine trying to clean up a house-worth of sheep, that's about 500lbs to you and me.

On top of making the yurt, she's also made a tribe of adorable baby yurts in appreciation for her sponsors who've helped her amass all that wool.

Way too cute, right?

Well, if you want to keep tabs on this amazing project, I suggest you go take a peek at her site, YurtAlert to see the whole step-by-step. Right now she's way deep in the fluff and just about to felt it on up into the wool cording.

It's a great read and Kate's loaded it with pics of the progress n' inspiration for the project interspersed, of course, with gratuitous shots of the uber-cutie sheep that are so graciously giving up their summer sweaters for the cause.

Gee, almost want to say, "It's Baaah-rilliant!" but that's just too corny to be funny. So I won't.
