- 100% Cotton Jacket
- Water-Soluble Fabric Marker or Tailor's Chalk
- Container for Dyeing or Stainless Steel Sink
- Hot Water
- Salt
- Dish Soap
- Measuring Cups and Spoons
- Rubber Gloves
- Tongs
- Mild Laundry Detergent
- Iron, Ironing Board and Pressing Cloth

Instructions
- Pre-wash the jacket in warm, soapy water without fabric softener. This removes any finishes or stains that may interfere with dye absorption. Leave the jacket damp.
- Wearing rubber gloves, fill a container or stainless steel sink with 3 gallons of hot water (ideally 140°F). If tap water is not hot enough, heat additional water on the stove and carefully add it to the dyebath.
- Add 1 cup of salt and 1 teaspoon of dish soap. Stir well.
- Add ½ cup of well-shaken Rit All-Purpose Liquid Dye in Marigold (or your desired color formula) and mix thoroughly.
- Test the color by dipping a paper towel into the dyebath. If the color is too light, add more dye. If it is too dark, add more water.
- Submerge the damp jacket in the dyebath. Stir continuously with tongs to ensure even color coverage.
- Once the desired color is achieved, remove the jacket and rinse under cool running water until the water runs clear.
- Wash in cold water with a mild detergent and allow the jacket to air dry.
- Iron the jacket to remove wrinkles and create a smooth surface for decorating with Rit FreeFlow™ Markers.
- Lightly sketch your design onto the jacket using a water-soluble fabric marker or tailor’s chalk.
- Use the bullet tip to outline your design, then fill it in with the brush tip as the base layer. Allow the ink to dry completely.
- Build depth and dimension by layering additional colors with the brush tip. Let each layer dry before adding more color if needed.
- Finish by adding outlines and fine details with the bullet tip.
- Allow the artwork to dry completely.
- Iron jacket on low inside-out using pressing cloth to help set your designs.
- To wash, use gentle cycle with cold water and hang to dry.
