Marble Dyed Buttons

These buttons are truly marble-ous with the help of lotion, yes, like moisturizing body lotion.

Supplies
  • Rit DyeMore for Synthetics
  • Plastic or Nylon White Buttons
  • Thick body lotion
  • Toothpick
  • Pan Sheet
  • Plastic Table cover
  • Squeeze Bottles
  • Paper Towels
  • Measuring spoons
  • Rubber gloves

Instructions
  1. Clean buttons with rubbing alcohol to remove any finishes that may interfere with dye absorption. Set aside.
  2. Wearing rubber gloves, mix 2 tablespoon of Rit DyeMore for Synthetics with 1 tablespoons of very hot water in a squeeze bottle. Repeat with additional colors as desired.
  3. Fill remainder of squeeze bottle with lotion. Secure the top and shake vigorously until dye is mixed with the lotion.
  4. Create a bed of lotion on a baking tray or protected surface.
  5. Apply the dye lotion mixture on top of the bed of lotion.
  6. Use a toothpick to marble and swirl the colors into the bed of lotion.
  7. Place clean buttons from Step 1 with right side down onto marbled designs and apply light pressure.
  8. Let the buttons sit overnight.
  9. Once set, remove buttons from bed of lotion and rinse in warm water to remove any lotion residue.
