You'll Also Need

  •   sweater

  •   4 gallon pot

  •   liquid detergent

  •   plastic table cover

  •   plastic wrap

  •   rubber bands

Step By Step

  1. Prepare your dye bath by mixing half a bottle of Navy Blue Rit Dye into piping hot water.

  2. Bundle up your sweater and secure with rubber bands.

  3. Drop into the dye bath and let sit for 20 minutes.

  4. Remove from the dye bath and submerge in the Dye Fixative dye bath, which helps the fabric retain brighter color for longer.

  5. After 20 minutes, remove and rinse with cold water. When water runs clear, add some detergent and rinse. Then, throw into the washing machine for a quick cycle. Hang to dry and there you go! I had a great present for Julia!

    Love the pool-like pattern.

Hi Tracy, Thank you for reaching out. We find it works best if you leave the rubber bands on and then after applying the fixative and rinsing in cold water with the rubber bands on, remove the rubber bands and re rinse in cold water. This will ensure there is no excess dye under the rubber bands that is getting missed. Please let us know if you have any other questions!

What do I do for the Dye Fixative bath? Is there instructions on the bottle?
