Time

Instructions
  1. Before dyeing, remove any visible stains on the fabric. This will help achieve uniform color results when dyeing. Prewash item in warm, soapy water without any fabric softener. This helps to remove any finishes that may interfere with dye absorption.
  2. Lay damp fabric out on a flat surface.
  3. Randomly scrunch socks and bind with rubber bands
  4. Now it is time to create your dyebath.
  5. Cover work area around stove with plastic table cover or newspaper and have paper towels handy to protect against any possible spills.
  6. Fill a small container with 4 cups of hot water.
  7. Add 1 teaspoon of dish detergent to help promote level dyeing.
  8. Wear rubber gloves to protect hands from getting stained and to insulate them when working with hot water.
  9. Add well-shaken dye and mix well.
  10. Immerse your bound socks in the dyebath for 4 to 10 minutes, up to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.  The longer the fabric is in the dye bath, the darker the color will be. Please note that fabric will look darker when wet and will dry lighter.

  11. When desired color is achieved, remove wrapped fabric from the dyebath. Squeeze out excess dye. Remember to save your dyebath to create the sock sleeve.
  12. Rinse in warm water and then gradually cool water until rinse water begins to run clear.
  13. Carefully remove rubber bands with a scissors and unfold the fabric.
  14. Wash in warm water with a mild detergent, rinse and dry.
  15. For card, cut white cardstock so that it’s long enough to wrap around the tie-dye socks.
  16. Use printer or hand write “We make the perfect pair”.
  17. Once ink is dry, use the remaining dyebath and a pipette to splatter dye onto the cardstock.

  18. Let dry and gently pat excess dye with paper towel.
  19. Wrap the dry splatter cardstock around the socks and secure with adhesives.
