Supplies
- Rit All-Purpose Liquid Dye in Royal Blue
- Sling Lounge Chair with Cotton Sling
- Rit ColorStay Dye Fixative
- Sink or Large Container for Dyeing
- Hanger with Clips
- Measuring Cup and Spoon
- Rubber gloves
- Paper Towels
- Dish Detergent
- Salt
Instructions
- Remove fabric from sling chair and prewash in warm, soapy water. This helps to remove any finishes that may interfere with dye absorption. Leave Damp
- Fill large dye container with 3 gallons very hot water (140F). Note: If water is not hot enough, heat some water in a cook pot to boiling and add to dye container.
- Dye Preparation: Shake dye bottle before pouring. Wearing rubber gloves, pour dye into the water. Then measure 1 cup salt dissolved with 2 cups hot water; add to dye bath. (Salt helps to intensify the color.) Then add a squirt of dish washing liquid and stir well.
- Clip fabric onto hanger and slowly lower into dyebath. For a colorblock effect, keep fabric steady to create straight line. For a gradient effect, move fabric up and down in the dyebath.
- Once desired color is achieved, remove from dyebath and rinse until rinse water runs clear. Make sure to keep dyed portion of the fabric downward to prevent staining the undyed areas.ย
- We strongly recommend usingย Rit ColorStay Dye Fixativeย immediately after dyeing and before washing.ย It enhances the color, increases color retention and prevents dye from bleeding into white areas.
- Wash in cold water with a mild detergent, rinse and dry.
- Place back onto swing chair frame and enjoy!
