Instructions
- Cover work area with plastic table cover and have paper towels handy to protect against any possible spills. Gather supplies.
- Wearing rubber gloves, fill a steel pot with 3 gallons of very hot water. Heat water on stove to an almost boil. Temperature should ideally be 180ºF or greater. Maintain temperature for duration of dyeing.
- Add 1/2 bottle of dye.
- Place pumpkin in dyebath.
- To get a faded ombré effect, roll the pumpkins around. After a few minutes, check to see if you like the color. If the color isn’t bold enough, add more dye. The pumpkin should remain in the dyebath for 5 to 10 minutes.
- To create a multi-colored pumpkin, dye the pumpkin first with a lighter color. Then, layer bolder covers over it. Krys’s multi-color pumpkin started with Daffodil Yellow, then Apricot Orange and finally Super Pink.
- Remove the pumpkin from the dyebath and let dry.
