You'll Also Need

  •   4 gallon pot

  •   large metal spoon

  •   rubber gloves

  •   stove pot

Step By Step

  1. I bought an inexpensive wig from Amazon for under $20. I made sure I bought a heat resistant wig due to the heat required to dye synthetics.

  2. For the colors, I chose to go with the Harley Quinn look from Suicide Squad. I can always come back later and dye the wig Racing Red and Graphite if I want to go a little old school Harley Quinn.

  3. In one smaller saucepan, I poured water and a full bottle of Pink Rit DyeMore.

  4. In another small saucepan, I poured a full bottle of Rit Kentucky Sky into water.

  5. I heated both saucepans up and then reduced heat and kept the dye baths at just below a simmer.

  6. To make sure you get the best color, do a swatch test with a bit of hair from the underneath portion of the wig.

  7. I simply dipped each ponytail in the dye baths and continued to dip until I achieved the color I was going for. The blue side took a bit longer than the pink side- about 15 minutes. Be gentle while dipping- the less tangling that occurs during dyeing, the less detangling you will need to do later.

  8. A good, thorough rinse in cold water until the water ran clear. I dried the wig by inverting a sauce pan and placing the wig carefully over it and let the wig air dry.

  9. And done! Pretty cute and a nice, inexpensive way to get a Harley Quinn look for Halloween and cosplay events!

      Hello Maureen,
Thank you for reaching out. We do not recommend using Rit Products on your real hair. Hope this helps.
