Project Description

I absolutely adore these inexpensive cotton mary jane shoes. They are super comfortable and they are the perfect canvas for adding color. I am looking forward to wearing these cute candy corn shoes all October long this year. Best thing? These shoes can be dyed in under 1/2 hour and only a small amount of dye is needed!

Prep, dyeing & Rinse time: About 30 minutes

Rit Products Used

You'll Also Need

  •   glass bowl small

  •   paint brush

Step By Step

  1. Here are the mary janes before. I usually find them for great prices on Ebay or Amazon.com

  2. I mixed up a small amount of Golden Yellow dye with hot water in a small glass bowl. I dipped the back of each shoe into the dye.

  3. For the Tangerine dye, I mixed up a small amount of dye and brushed it on using a foam craft brush. Rinse thoroughly in cold water. Pro-tip: I held the shoes under my kitchen tap while being careful to hold the shoes horizontally so that no excess dye would run into the white part of the shoes. Optional: Spray thoroughly with Rit Dye Fixative and let sit for 20 minutes before rinsing. This will protect the shoes from having much color run out during the rinse process.

  4. I stuffed 2 plastic grocery store bags into the toes of the shoes to dry overnight. Hand dry the metal buckle to help prevent rusting.

  5. And done. So quick, so economical and super cute!
