Project Description

This summer, we decided to makeover my daughter's room to update it to reflect her current style. She wanted everything to be purple so when we found the perfect faux fur body pillow covers at Target that only came in grey, I knew it would be an easy fix to dye them with DyeMore. They are now the perfect addition to her updated room and they were super easy!

You'll Also Need

  •   large metal spoon

  •   rubber gloves

  •   stove pot

Step By Step

  1. Here are the pillow covers as they were when I first brought them home from Target.

  2. I used one full bottle of Rit DyeMore in Royal Purple which is specially formulated for synthetic fabrics like the polyester fur of these pillowcases.

  3. I waited for the water and dye bath to heat up just below a simmer- high constant heat is key to successful DyeMore dyeing. Be very watchful of your fabric and make sure it can withstand the heat. I have linked Ritster Dianne's tutorial about dyeing a fur vest (see attached link) because she gives such great, precise instructions on how to dye fur.

  4. Color takes about 20 minutes or more to deepen. Keep stirring and watching the pot. Once you achieve your desired color results, remove pillowcases from dye bath and rinse until water runs clear. I then washed the pillowcases with gentle detergent in my washer and fluff dried.

  5. Perfect! My daughter LOVES these pillows for her new, very purple room!

  6. Check out the photo on how to do this step.
