Project Description

My son is not quite old enough for college yet (*whew!*) but he did spend 2 weeks in the dorms for camp at a local college this summer. I took the opportunity to update his bedding so he'd have something fun for camp while he was away but also something practical he could bring back home for his own room. I found that duvet covers at Ikea are perfect- great prices and because they have lots of black and white print options, we are able to dye their bedding to match any color scheme.

You'll Also Need

  •   front loading washing machine

  •   salt

Step By Step

  1. The cute duvet cover from Ikea.

  2. Here is the whole set of items I put together for the dorm room. I have created separate tutorials for the pillows and lamp here at RitStudio.com.

  3. To save time, I dyed the duvet cover and matching pillow cases right in my front loading washing machine (see video).

  4. Done and in the dorm room. It's always fun to know that even though many students are shopping in the same places for their dorm rooms, this bedding will be totally unique because it's custom dyed!

  5. Here's the comforter in slightly better lighting. =)
