You'll Also Need

  •   foam brush

  •    ruffled skirt

  •   bucket

  •   dishwashing liquid

  •   latex gloves

  •   measuring cup

  •   old towel

  •   paper towels

  •   plastic table cover

Step By Step

  1. Directions to Dye the skirt: Prep your surface. Lay plastic table cover or large old towel on the surface you will working over. Put on your latex gloves.

  2. Fill a bucket with hot water. Pour each color of liquid Rit Dye into cups, one color per cup. Pour a tablespoon of Rit powder dye into a small cup of hot water and stir.

  3. Place the ruffled skirt onto the plastic table cover. Next dip a foam brush into the darker dye colors and randomly brush onto various areas of the skirt. Then dip another foam brush into the lighter dye colors and randomly brush onto the skirt. Be careful not to cover the whole skirt, you want parts of the original skirt color to still show.

  4. Fold in half and place in microwave for 1 minute, then for another minute. Let dry over night. After air dried overnight, rinse the dye w/dishwasher liquid until no more dye runs from the skirt. Place in dryer.

  5. Your skirt is ready to wear.

  6. Tips: -Use Rit Dye Fixative over the dyed skirt for more color stay. -Add more darker colors to the skirt. -Sprinkle w/bleach for more fun effects. -Add fabric glitter.
