Purple Haze

Project Description

A few folds, rubber bands, and purple Rit Dye turned this plain white T-shirt into a fun summer fashion statement!

Prep, dyeing & Rinse time: About 1 hour

You'll Also Need

  •   White T-shirt

  •    metal stock pot

  •   dishwashing liquid

  •   latex gloves

  •   large metal spoon

  •   old towel

  •   rubber bands

  •   salt white vinegar

Step By Step

  1. Fold T-shirt in half lengthwise and then accordion fold lengthwise in approximately 2" widths.

  2. Place rubber bands around the folded shirt down the length of the folds. Wet shirt with water.

  3. Prepare stovetop dye bath using 1/2 bottle of purple liquid dye, 1 cup salt, and squirt of dish soap in large pot of simmering water. Place bound shirt into dye for 10 minutes.

  4. Allow shirt to cool, then remove rubber bands and rinse in cold water until water runs clear.
