Project Description

The latest trend in the fashion industry are handmade jewelry. Ribbon, lace and fabric necklaces and bracelets are popping up everywhere and can be quite expensive to purchase. However I have come up with several ways to create your own eye catching jewelry. For these Flower Tie Bracelets, all you need is cotton lace trim, flip flop clips, rhinestone button and new Rit Color Perfect dye. xo

Step By Step

  1. To dye the cotton lace trim: Prep your surface. Lay plastic table cover on the surface you will working over. Put on your rubber or latex gloves.

  2. Pour 1/2 the bottle of Rit citrus color perfect liquid dye in a disposable bowl, set aside. Then cut lace trim into a 13 inch strip.

  3. Remove dyed lace trim and place on foil or newspaper, let dry. Speed up drying process using a heat tool. Pour remaining dye back into the dye bottle.

  4. To dye the flip flop clips: Coat the flip flop clip with white vinegar, let dry. Place the flip flop clip in a disposable bowl, pour Rit citrus color perfect liquid dye over the flip flop clip until immersed, let set for 1/2 hour or until desired color is achieved. Place on foil or newspaper to dry.

  5. To assemble the bracelet: Thread a sewing needle with quilting thread and stitch on the dyed flip flop clip to the middle of the bracelet. Then attach the rhinestone button to the center of the flip flop click.

  6. Tips/Tricks:-Pour remaining dye back into the dye bottle.-Use a wooden flower or pin in place of the flip flop clip.-Cut a larger piece of lace and turn into a choker necklace. -Apply fabric tac after you stitch on the flower and button for extra durability. -I used lace trim from Joannes Fabrics. Rhinestone buttons from bazzill basics. Flip Flop clips from Kids Camp line at Joannes Fabrics. -Color perfect liquid from Rit is easy to use.- For the darker bracelet I used reg liquid Rit dye in pearl grey to dye the lace trim and flower.
