Project Description

Create your own mixed media alcohol ink using Rit Dye. Pour into spray bottle, roller bottle, over a homemade inkpad, or use to paint your illustrations, rubber stamp images and to distress.

  •   Rubbing Alcohol

  •    ultra fine glitter

  •    paper

  •    paper tags

  •    funnel

  •    disposable spoon

  •   glass bowl small

  •   measuring spoons

  •   paper plate

  •   paper towels

  •   plastic table cover

  •   spray bottle

Step By Step

  1. Prepare your work surface with a plastic covering.

  2. For Alcohol Ink: In a small/medium glass bowl, add 1 teaspoon of pink petal or aquamarine Rit dye to a 1/3 cup rubbing alcohol. Stir to mix.

  3. Pour the mixed ink into a spray bottle or ink jar using a funnel.

  4. For Glitter Ink: In a small/medium glass bowl, add 1 teaspoon of pink petal or aquamarine Rit dye, 1 teaspoon ultra fine glitter to a 1/3 cup rubbing alcohol. Stir to mix.

  5. Pour the mixed ink into a spray bottle or ink jar using a funnel.

  6. Once both inks are prepared test the color on a paper towel or scrap paper.

  7. Tips/Tricks: -For more of a pigment alcohol or glitter ink use less alcohol and more ink. -Pour your ink onto a dried or homemade ink pad. -Add dark brewed coffee or tea for more distress. -Sprinkle rock salt, coffee grinds or bleach onto the inked surface for a fun effect. -Paint with your ink. Use the ink to color in inked rubber stamp images or mixed media illustrations. -Mix Rit dye for unique color combinations. -Ink and distress paper and tags ( see project photo examples)

    Love finding this, now I can make my alcohol inks and try a new craft. I tried the Sharpie pens method and not satisfied with the results.
