Step By Step

  1. Cover work surface with a plastic table cover.

  2. Wearing rubber gloves, shake dye bottle, measure 2 teaspoons Cherry Red liquid dye with 2 cups very hot water (140° F); stir well. If your tap water is not hot enough, heat some in the microwave or a tea kettle. Pour into plastic container.

  3. Immerse buttons in dye solution for 2 to 5 minutes. (I left mine in 5 minutes.) Stir occasionally and check color frequently.

  4. Remove buttons when desired color is achieved. Rinse buttons. Wash with soap and water, rinse again and dry on paper towels.

  5. Fill bottom of vase with buttons. Arrange roses and add water.

  6. Gift Tins: Cut ribbon to fit around bottom of each gift tin. Glue ribbon to tin.

  7. Fill tins with dyed buttons. (These were filled with buttons dyed in Petal Pink, Fuchsia and Violet.)
