Side Circle T-Shirt

Side Circle T-Shirt

Supplies Needed

  • Rit Liquid or Powder Dye: Lemon Yellow & Fuchsia
  • 100% Cotton T-Shirt
  • 2 Squirt bottles for dye
  • Rubber bands
  • Plastic disposable spoons for mixing dyes
  • 4-Cup Measuring cup
  • Plastic wrap
  • Paper towels
  • Rubber gloves to protect hands from dye
  • Plastic cover to protect table

Instructions

  1. Cover work surface with a plastic cover.
  2. Lay shirt out on a flat surface.
  3. Pinch a section of the shirt where you want the center of the circle to be.  Pull it up toward you to make a tee-pee shape.  Then pull up more of the fabric for a larger circle.
  4. Close one hand around the point of the tee-pee and tie it off with a rubber band; then add rubber bands down the length of it.  (The more rubber bands, the larger the circle will be.)
  5. Dip shirt in water; squeeze out excess water.  Set aside
  6. Wearing rubber gloves, prepare Yellow & Fuchsia dyes separately:  Mix 1 package of Yellow powdered dye or ½ cup Yellow liquid dye with 2 cups hot tap water; stir well.  Pour into squirt bottle.  Repeat for Fuchsia dye.
  7. Overlap several layers of plastic wrap to make an area slightly larger than shirt.
  8. Place shirt on plastic wrap. Squirt Yellow dye on wrapped section of shirt.
  9. Squirt Fuchsia dye on whole shirt including the wrapped section.
  10. Cover shirt with plastic wrap; seal edges.  Fold to fit in microwave.
  11. Line bottom of microwave with paper towels.  Place wrapped shirt in microwave and set on High for 2 minutes.
  12. Wearing rubber gloves, remove shirt from microwave.  Rinse shirt in cool water until water runs clear.  Then launder in warm water with a mild detergent; rinse and dry.
