Pleated T-Shirt

Supplies Needed

• Rit Liquid or Powder Dye: Fuchsia & Lemon Yellow
• 100% Cotton T-Shirt
• 2 Squirt bottles for dye
• Plastic disposable spoons for mixing dyes
• 4-Cup Measuring cup
• Small disposable plastic tray
• Plastic wrap
• Paper towels
• Rubber gloves to protect hands from dye
• Plastic cover to protect table

Instructions

1. Cover work surface with a plastic cover.
2. Lay shirt out on a flat surface.
3. Accordion fold shirt vertically.
4. Dip shirt in water; squeeze out excess water.  Loosely roll shirt in a circle and place in a plastic tray.
   
5. Wearing rubber gloves, prepare Fuchsia & Lemon Yellow dyes:  Mix 1 package of  Yellow powdered dye or ½ cup liquid dye with 2 cups hot tap water; stir well.  Pour into squirt bottle.  Repeat for Fuchsia dye. 
6. Squirt Yellow dye over shirt.  Squeeze shirt to penetrate.
7. Squirt Fuchsia dye over folds.  Turn shirt over and squirt Fuchsia dye on folds.
8. Wrap shirt in plastic.  Fold to fit in microwave.
9. Line bottom of microwave with paper towels.  Place wrapped shirt in microwave and set on High for 2 minutes.
10. Wearing rubber gloves, remove shirt from microwave.  Rinse shirt in cool water  until water runs clear.  Then launder in warm water with a mild detergent; rinse and dry.
