  • Photo-safe glue or tape
  • Foam tape or dimensional glue dots
  • Flower photos (printed with white border)
  • 2 Spray mister bottles
  • Foam brush
  • Paper cutter
  • Paper plate
  • Paper towels
  • Plastic table cover
  • Latex gloves
  • Microwave
  • Heat tool

Instructions

  1. Protect work area with plastic table cover.
  2. Cut watercolor paper so it fits into microwave. (Tip: Use the largest piece of paper that will fit in the microwave – then you’ll have extra for other projects.)
  3. Pour resist medium on paper plate. Use foam brush to apply resist to daisy stamp. Stamp repeatedly on watercolor paper in random pattern, brushing on more medium after each impression. When done, immediately clean stamp. Repeat with another flower image on the cube, again washing stamp when done. Let paper air dry or dry with heat tool.
  4. Pour Purple dye into small spray bottle. Spray dye randomly on watercolor paper stamped with resist. Spray another piece of watercolor paper that has not been stamped with resist (this will be for stamping the butterfly.) Pour Kelly Green dye into spray bottle and spray dye on both papers.
  5. Dry each paper in the microwave: Line bottom of microwave with paper towels. Place the dyed paper in the microwave and set on high for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Remove paper and gently rinse off the Batik medium using a wet sponge or foam brush. Dry paper in the microwave for 1 – 2 minutes.
  7. Using black ink, overstamp the open daisy image on the dyed paper that has the resist-stamped flowers.
  8. Using the resist-dyed flower paper, cut two panels as shown and layer each on black paper. Glue to green scrapbook paper.
  9. Punch 5 squares from second piece of green paper. Glue on letters, then affix to top panel, tilting the squares as shown.
  10. Mount photos onto bottom resist-dyed flower panel, creating layout as desired.
  11. Stamp butterfly on the non-stamped watercolor paper using clear embossing ink (or black pigment ink). Apply black embossing powder, shake off the excess, then heat the powder. (Pour excess powder back into jar.)
  12. Use glue dot to attach butterfly to lower panel and flower to upper panel.
