Instructions:

  1. Protect work area with newspapers or plastic.
  2. Use foam brush or sponge to apply resist medium on heart stamp and stamp repeatedly on watercolor paper, brushing on more medium after each impression. Wash stamp immediately. Let paper dry or dry with heat tool.
  3. Pour Scarlet and Royal Blue Dye into a spray bottle or mister (use a separate mister for each color. Spray dye liberally on paper, alternating colors. Tip: If you don’t have a mister, you may use a sea sponge to dab on the dye.
  4. Spray or brush Royal Blue dye on white flower. Spray, paint or dip white button into Scarlet dye.
  5. Dry paper and flower in the microwave: Line bottom of microwave with paper towels. Place the dyed paper in the microwave and set on high for 1-2 minutes. Allow button to air dry.
  6. Remove paper and gently rinse off the Batik medium using a wet sponge or foam brush. Do not rinse the flower. Let paper dry.
  7. Using black ink, overstamp the heart on the dyed paper.
  8. Cut two panels – one 4” x 5” one 2” x 4”. Layer each panel on black paper.
  9. Glue black ribbon to lower portion of the larger panel (as shown); then glue the panel to the front of the card.
  10. Glue the smaller panel on the right side of the card front, as shown.
  11. Affix three gemstones on left side of ribbon.
  12. Tie yarn through button holes then use a Glue Dot to affix the button to the flower and another Glue Dot to affix the flower to the top right of smaller panel.
  13. Stamp “love” on scrap paper using clear embossing ink (or black pigment ink). Apply black embossing powder, shake off the excess, then heat the powder. (Pour excess powder back into jar.)
  14. Cut out the “Love” sentiment and affix it to the lower part of the smaller panel using dimensional foam tape.

Designer’s Note: When dyeing background paper, it makes sense to dye a larger sheet to use for other projects. If using a larger piece of watercolor paper, cut the paper before dyeing so that it fits in your microwave.
