Tie-Dyed Mini Tote

Step 1:

1. For best results, pre-wash tote bag to remove any finishes that may interfere with dye absorption.

2. Cover work surface with a plastic table cover.

3. Lay the bag flat. Then gather the corner of the bag into a cone shape. Wrap three rubber bands tightly around the cone at 1” intervals. This will create a curved pattern. Note: The tighter the rubber bands, the more white area there will be.

4. Dye Preparation: Fill a bucket or dishpan with 1 gallon very hot tap water (140º F). Note: If water is not hot enough, heat some water in a tea kettle or in the microwave. Shake liquid dye bottle. Then pour ½ bottle of Kelly Green liquid dye or 1 box of Kelly Green powder into the hot water; stir well.

5. Wet the tied bag in warm water. Then immerse bag into dye solution for 10 – 20 minutes or until desired shade is achieved. Stir occasionally and push down on tied bag with a spoon to be sure dye penetrates the bag.

6. Remove bag from dye solution. Carefully cut away the rubber bands. Rinse bag under cold running water until water runs clear. Then wash in warm water with mild detergent, rinse, dry flat and iron.
