"Thankful For You" - Thanksgiving Day Card

Step 1:

1. Wearing latex gloves, measure and mix 1 tablespoon of Wine dye with ½ cup HOT water in small bowl; sir well. Cut 3”x 3” piece of burlap. Submerge burlap, 1 button, and a 2 foot length of white string in dye solution. Let set approximately 2 minutes. Remove from dye; rinse lightly in tap water. Place burlap and string on paper towels and microwave approximately 2 minutes to dry. Air dry button.

2. Measure and mix 1 tablespoon of Apple Green dye with ½ cup HOT water in small bowl. Cut 4”x 6” piece of burlap. Submerge burlap, 1 button and 2 foot length of white string in dye solution. Let set approximately 2 minutes. Remove from dye; rinse lightly in tap water. Place burlap and string on paper towels and microwave approximately 2 minutes to dry. Air dry button.

3. Measure and mix 1 tablespoon of Golden Yellow dye with ½ cup HOT water in small bowl. Cut 3”x 3” piece of burlap. Submerge burlap, 1 button, and 2 foot length of white string in dye solution. Let set approximately 2 minutes. Remove from dye; rinse lightly in tap water. Place burlap and string on paper towels and microwave approximately 2 minutes to dry. Air dry button.

4. Measure and mix 1 tablespoon of Dark Brown dye with ½ cup HOT water in small bowl. Cut 3” x 3” piece of burlap. Submerge burlap, 2 buttons and 2 foot length of white string in dye solution. Remove 1 button after approximately 30 seconds to 1 minute (a light shading of first button is what you are trying to achieve). Let burlap, string, and second button set approximately 2 minutes. Remove from dye; rinse lightly in tap water. Place burlap and string on paper towels and microwave approximately 2 minutes to dry. Air dry buttons.

5. Cut leaf shape from Golden Yellow burlap. Cut leaf shape from Wine burlap. Cut acorn shape from NON-DYED burlap, then cut acorn cap from dark brown burlap. Tip: If you prefer not to draw and cut your own shapes, free leaf and acorn templates can be found online.

6. Cut Apple Green burlap approximately 5 ½” x 3 ½” or large enough to serve as base for leaves and acorn. Gently pull strings from all four sides to create tattered edge.

7. Using Golden Yellow dyed string threaded through embroidery needle, stitch yellow leaf onto green burlap on right side, as shown.

8. Using Wine dyed string threaded through embroidery needle, stitch Wine leaf onto Apple Green burlap in center, slightly overlapping Golden Yellow leaf, as shown.

9. Using Dark Brown dyed string threaded through embroidery needle, stitch acorn bottom and cap onto Apple Green burlap on left side, slightly overlapping wine leaf, as shown.

10. Use Apple Green dyed string to stitch 3 buttons randomly around leaves and acorn, as shown.

11. Cut piece of patterned paper approximately 6 ½” x 4” or slightly larger than green burlap. Tear right and left edges. Ink torn edges by rubbing brown ink pad directly onto edges.

12. Cut brown card stock to 7 1/2” x 10”; then fold in half to create card.

13. Ink acorn stamp with dark brown ink, stamp randomly on front and back of card. On inside of card, stamp acorns along bottom edge.

14. On front of card, mount patterned paper to center of card. Then mount green burlap with stitched leaves and acorn over patterned paper, as shown.

15. Ink “I’m so thankful for you” message stamp with dark brown ink and stamp onto tan card stock cut approximately 2” x 1 ½”. Trim around message and ink edges with ink pad.

16. Cut approximately 1 1/2” square of dark brown dyed burlap, gently pull strings from all four sides to create tattered edge.

17. Cut piece of patterned paper to 2” x 4 1/2”. Tear left and right edges. Ink all edges with ink pad.

18. On inside of card, mount patterned paper, layer square of burlap, stamped meassage and add 2 button accents, as shown.
