OVERVIEW STEP-BY-STEP

Make a fun St. Patrick's Day card with dyed and stamped book pages.

Step 1:

To Dye Book Pages

1. Cover work surface with plastic table cover.

2. Wearing craft gloves, shake dye bottle, measure 1 Tablespoon Kelly Green dye with 1 cup water; pour into bowl. Cover with paper towel and microwave for 1 minute.

3. Wearing craft gloves, quickly place book page into dye solution and remove. Gently rinse in water and set aside on paper towel. Note: Book pages will begin to dissolve quickly if allowed to become over saturated - so work carefully and quickly.

4. To heat set paper, place dyed book page on paper towel in microwave on high for approximately 20 seconds. Remove from microwave and set aside. Repeat until 3 pages are dyed.

5. From 1 dyed book page, cut 12 - 15 individual shamrock leaves about 1” x 1” and several stems. Note: Cindi cut her leaves freehand, but you can print a shamrock template to trace, if desired). Set aside 4 - 7 leaves and 1 - 2 stems.

6. Wearing craft gloves, measure and mix 2 teaspoons Kelly Green dye with 1/4 cup water in a bowl; stir. Cover bowl with a paper towel and microwave for 30 seconds.

To Make Shamrock Print Pattern

1. To make shamrock print pattern on 2 dyed book pages, hold individual shamrock leaf with tweezers and immerse in hot dye. Remove leaf immediately and place directly onto dried, dyed book page. Repeat with 3 - 4 leaves and stems to form a shamrock. After approximately 30 seconds, use tweezers to gently lift wet leaves from paper and set onto paper towels.

2. Continue until you have made the desired number of dark shamrocks on dyed book pages.

3. Let background paper and individual leaves dry completely (Cindi did not microwave to avoid possible scorching).

To Make Individual Shamrocks

1. To make individual paper shamrocks from dark leaves and light leaves that were set aside: Thread embroidery needle with copper metallic colorfloss and make a running stitch around border of each leaf and stem.

2. Use small amount of adhesive to attach stitched leaves in center to form shamrocks. Set aside.

Step 3:

To Make Book Mark

1. To make book mark, cut copper card stock to 2” x 6 1/2”. Following manufacturer’s instructions, emboss card stock using texture plate and Sizzix Big Shot.

2. From dyed book page without shamrock pattern, cut 2” x 6 1/2” piece and mount to back of copper textured card stock.

3. Cut dark green card stock to 1 1/2” x 6”. Mount on center front of book mark.

4. Tear 1” x 6” strip of dyed book page and mount in center of book mark.

5. Wrap embroidery floss 3 times around book mark vertically.

6. Mount dark shamrock to center of book mark.

7. Punch hole in top center, add additional strands of embroideryfloss.

Step 4:

To Make Card

1. Cut green card stock to 5” x 4 1/4”.

2. Cut copper card stock to 4 7/8” x 8”. Cut second scrap piece at least 4 7/8” x 3”. Following manufacturer’s instructions, emboss card stock using texture plate and Sizzix Big Shot. Fold in half to create card.

3. Mount centered on dark green card stock rectangle.

4. Cut 4 7/8” x 4” piece of shamrock patterned dyed paper, mount to inside base of card. Cut 4 7/8” x 1/4” strip of copper embossed card stock and mount at top of inside of card below folding crease.

5. Stamp verse onto piece of dyed paper, tear around verse and mount on piece of copper embossed card stock and then onto dark green mat. Mount in bottom right corner of card inside.

6. Cut 4 7/8” x 4” piece of dark green card stock. Mount to top inside (lifting portion) of card front.

7. Tear shamrock patterned dyed paper to approximately 4 1/2” x 3 1/2” and mount centered on front of card.

8. Wrap 3 strands of embroideryflossaround card front, centered horizontally and adhere in center.

9. Cut 2 1/4” x 2 1/4” square of green card stock. Use foam squares to mount in diamond shape in center of card front.

10. Cut 2” x 2” piece of copper embossed card stock, use foam squares to mount over dark green square on card front.

11. Mount light colored shamrock to center of copper square.
