Springtime Overdyed Towel Apron

Step 1:

- Wash towel to remove any finishes that may interfere with the absorption of the dye.

- Cover work surface with plastic cover. Wearing rubber gloves, measure and mix ¼ cup Aquamarine dye, ¼ cup salt and 4 quarts very hot water; stir well. (If tap water is not hot enough (140º F), heat some water in a tea kettle or the microwave.) Wet towel and immerse in dyebath for 5 – 10 minutes, stirring continuously to ensure an even color.
Designer Tip: Remember the rules of color mixing apply when overdyeing a colored fabric so make it part of your design. Choose a dye color that will complement the colored stripes in the towel.

- Remove towel from dyebath and rinse in cool water until water runs clear. Wash in warm water with mild detergent, rinse and dry.

- Iron the towel flat. Fold the towel almost in half so that the top layer is about 3” shorter than the bottom layer. Press fold and pin to hold.
