Overdyed Cheetah Wine Bag

Step 1:

Dyeing Instructions:

- Dye one 18" x 22" piece of white cotton broadcloth following instructions for Overdyed Animal Prints (see DIY Projects Fashion & Fashion Accessories). When dyeing base color for cheetah fabric (mix of Golden Yellow and Cocoa Brown), dye the 8 white buttons along with the fabric. Ribbon can be dyed with buttons or purchased in a coordinating color.

Sewing Instructions:

1- Cut two 7 ½" x 22" fabric panels from dyed cheetah fabric.

2- Turn under ¼" and stitch a hem along one short end of each 7 ½" panel. This will be the top of the bag.

3- Cut two 7 ½" pieces of 5/8" wide grosgrain ribbon. Measure 4 ¼" from hem and pin ribbon to the right side of each fabric panel. Machine stitch in place.

4- Pin fabric panels, right sides together. Machine stitch a ¼" seam along two long sides and across short end. Leave end with ribbon open. This will be the top of the bag.

5- Miter corners of bag: Measure 2" from each corner along both sides; mark with chalk. Draw and then stitch a diagonal line across each corner.

6- Trim away excess fabric. Finish seam allowances.

7-To make top cuff: Fold hemmed end of bag 5 ½" to the inside, wrong sides together; pin. Stitch edge of cuff to bag on top of previous stitching.

8- Turn bag right side out.

9- Turn open end of bag 3" over right side of bag. Press lightly.
Position 6 buttons on grosgrain ribbon, 3 on each side of bag. Hand sew in place.

10- Cut 28" piece of 3/8" grosgrain ribbon. Cut ends of ribbon diagonally.

11- Thread each end of ribbon through holes in one button about 2" from end of ribbon. Bring ribbon up through one hole and down through the other; knot ribbon on underside of button.

12- Tie ribbon around bag just under the cuff.
