Step 2:

3. Push the wrapped fabric down to the end of the pipe, compressing the fabric and the cord. (When the dye is applied, the cord will act as a resist.)

Step 3:

4. Continue wrapping and compressing until you have used all the fabric. Secure end of cord with tape.

5. Run wrapped fabric under warm water for several minutes. This will help the dye be absorbed into the fabric.

Step 4:

The Dye Process:
1. Cover work surface with plastic table cover. Wear rubber gloves.

2. Measure 1 Tablespoon Rit Aquamarine dye into one of the plastic cups. Add 1 cup very hot water, at least 140˚. Stir well.

3. Using a 2” foam brush, apply dye mixture over the entire surface of the fabric being sure the fabric is well saturated. Dye-paint the dowel rod with the same dye mixture. (Wood absorbs the dye, yet allows the wood grain to show-through.)

Step 5:

4. Repeat step 2 using Rit Lemon Yellow dye. With the foam brush, dye-paint vertical areas with the dye mixture. Notice that the Lemon Yellow on the Aquamarine will create a lemon-lime color!


5. Repeat step 4 using Rit Evening Blue. Dye-paint a few different areas with the dye mixture. Allow the fabric to sit for 4-6 minutes.



6. Rinse dyed fabric in cold water. Remove twine. Continue rinsing fabric until water runs clear. Launder with mild detergent, rinse, dry flat, press.

Step 6:

Assembling the Wall Hanging:
1. Layer the fabrics and quilt batting in this order: back, front, (right-sides together), then quilt batting on top. With your rotary cutter, retrim the edges if necessary. Pin together.

2. Trim off the corners of the batting to reduce bulk.

3. Using your sewing machine, Stitch around the outer edge with a 1/4” seam allowance leaving a 4” space for turning.

4. Turn right side out. Use your favorite tool to make your corners crisp. Press.

5. With needle and thread, stitch the 4” space closed.

6. Finish the short ends of the rod pocket with a 1/4” turned hem. Stitch the long edges together using a 1/4” seam allowance. Turn right side out and press. Hand-stitch the rod pocket to the back of the wall hanging at the upper edge.

Embellishing:
1. Use the patterns provided. Print each pattern directly onto the paper side of the iron-on transfer web. Set your printer according to the manufacturer’s suggested settings.

2. Iron the printed transfer web to the wrong side of the glittered felt pieces following the transfer web manufacturer’s directions. Cut out the felt letters and reindeer being careful to cut outside the pattern line.

3. Arrange the letters and the reindeer as shown. Iron them to the wall hanging following the transfer web manufacturer’s directions.

4. Press the foam adhesive-backed snowflakes to the wall hanging.

5. Hand-stitch the four seed pearl beads to the centers of four snowflakes.

Insert the dowel rod through the rod pocket. Use yarn or ribbon as a hanger.
