Hand-Dyed Delicates

I hand dye, with Rit colors – delicates, that is to say – lingerie, camisoles, bustiers, petticoats. I am currently preparing a ‘collection’ of my hand-dyed couture, all of which I buy for a couple of dollars a piece at the thrift store, for Earth Fair in Balboa Park in March. I will have a booth, and I will be selling clothing I have dyed. My idea is to sell reworked, recycled clothing. The pieces actually come out looking so pretty – I have included two photos for you – the first is a bustier I dyed and you can see how nicely the dye takes in different areas, depending on the fabrics in the garment. The other piece here is a slip which started out bright nylon white, but after dyeing it is a very subtle silver, with intense blue-purple lace at the bust and hem, and I’ve included a detail to show how lovely the lace looks dyed.
The pieces look like vintage evening wear – I mix different Rit dyes, so each piece is unique. They come out totally unpredictably – I usually machine dye, but the more fragile pieces I do by hand.
