Fairy Princess Costume

Step 1:

Tie-Dyeing Fabric:

1. Cover work surface with a plastic table cover.

2. Prewash fabric to remove any finishes that may interfere with dye absorption.

3. Cut fabric into 2 to 4 large pieces, making sure length is 2 times the desired length of the fairy dress.

4. Bunch each fabric piece into a ball and wrap with several rubber bands.

5. Before dyeing, shake liquid dye bottles. Wearing disposable rubber gloves, measure 1 teaspoon Petal Pink dye into large glass bowl; add 2 cups very hot water; stir well. Then measure 1 teaspoon Purple dye into another large glass bowl; add 2 cups very hot water; stir well. Note: If water is not hot enough, heat water in the microwave or in a tea kettle.

6. Immerse 2 wrapped fabric balls in each dye solution. To create a more crisp, crinkled color, immerse “dry” fabric ball in dye solution. For a blended crinkled look, lightly wet fabric ball in water and then immerse in dye solution. Let sit in dye for 1 minute. Remove and squeeze out excess dye.

7. Wrap each fabric ball with plastic wrap. Place in microwave for 2 minutes. Let cool at least 2 minutes. Remove plastic wrap and rubber bands. Rinse in cool water until water runs clear. Squeeze out excess water. Hang dry.

8. Then redye by bunching each fabric piece into a ball and wrapping with several rubber bands.

9. Repeat entire dyeing process as described above, but alternate colors. Fabric balls previously dyed in Petal Pink should be dyed in the Purple dye solution and vice versa.

10. Wrap each fabric ball with plastic wrap. Place in microwave for 2 minutes. Let cool at least 2 minutes. Remove plastic wrap and rubber bands. Rinse in cool water until water runs clear. Machine wash and hang dry.
