Dyed Shoe Refashion

Step 2:

Start off with a pair of shiny, satin wedding shoes.

Step 3:

1) To protect the inside of the shoes from dye, line the full interior with painter's tape.

2) Cover your work surface with plastic and grab some rubber gloves. Shake, measure and mix:

1 Tablespoon Evening Blue
1 teaspoon Royal Blue
1 cup of very hot 140˚F water

Step 4:

3) Using a foam brush, carefully paint the hot dye evenly on the exterior of the shoes and let dry.

Step 5:

4) While the dye is still hot, immerse the rayon cord in the dye. Stir occasionally for even dyeing and remove when you like the color. Rinse in cool water until it runs clear and dry. Note: if the dye has cooled, you can simply reheat in the microwave.

5) OK, back to the shoes! With a clean, damp sponge, blot the shoes to remove any excess dye. Again let dry. Spray with Scotchguard to seal and protect the fabric.



6) To make the nautical detail, coil the rayon cord in a spiral and hot glue. Affix a star-shaped stud to the center and hot glue the whole thing to the center toe of each shoe.

Step 6:

7) The pyramid stud detail was actually from a wider trim, I cut it down to the width of the ankle strap. The length was measured from the ankle strap and came to 9" ( your measurement might vary). Once the trim was cut, I just hot glued it onto the strap for that finishing touch.
