Dyed Coffee Filter Party Garland

Step 1:

1. Cover work surface with a plastic table cover.

2. Wearing latex gloves, measure and mix ¼ teaspoon Fuchsia dye and ¼ teaspoon Cherry Red dye with 1 cup very hot water; stir well. Pour into microwave safe bowl.

3. Immerse coffee filters in dye solution (need 4 filters per flower). Cover bowl with plastic wrap. Line bottom of microwave with paper towels to protect against spills.
Place bowl in microwave and set on high for 2 minutes. Using a pot holder, carefully remove bowl from microwave. It’s very hot. Let cool and then remove plastic wrap.

4. Remove coffee filters from dye solution. Rinse in cool water until water runs clear. Squeeze out excess water and place on paper towels to dry.

5. Cut 6” triangles from scrapbook paper (need one for each flower) to create an individual banner for each flower.

6. Cut lace doily in half and glue to one side of each paper triangle, allowing part of doily to extend beyond paper.

7. To make coffee filter flowers: Fold each circle filter in half. Then take the folded circles and overlap them, one over another as shown. It’s just like overlapping the top of a cardboard box, when closing it.

8. Carefully pick up the folded coffee filters and glue them onto the scrapbook triangle paper. Make sure all the pieces are glued down, but only glue near the centers to allow you to “fluff” the flower once it’s glued.

9. Using the Fiskars punch, cut out a 1 ½” circle from the scrapbook paper. Glue one circle to the center of each coffee filter flower.

10. Glue one craft mirror to the center of each scrapbook paper circle.

11. Continue making flower banners until you have enough to create the desired length of garland. Flower banners are spaced about 3” apart.

12. Attach flower banners to ribbon with glue. Let dry. Fluff up flowers.
