"Best Dad In The Neighborhood" Card

Step 1:

1. Following manufacturer’s instructions, cut Townscape from white craft foam using On the Edge Die and the Sizzix Big Shot.

2. Wearing latex gloves, measure 1 tablespoon Tan dye into disposable bowl. Add 1/3 cup hot water. Microwave on High for 1 ½ minutes.

3. Place Townscape craft foam in dye solution. Let set approximately 5 minutes. Remove from dye and place on paper towels. Microwave for 15 seconds to dry. DO
NOT overheat craft foam.

4. Cut watercolor paper into 3 pieces: 3” x 12 1/2”, 6 ½” x 3 ½”, 2 ½” x 6” and 2 small scrap pieces approximately 2” x 3”. Cut 2nd sheet to 8 ½” x 6”.

5. Wearing latex gloves, in 3 separate bowls measure 1 tsp. of Cocoa Brown, 1 tsp. Kelly Green, 1 tsp. Royal Blue and 3 drops Denim Blue (use paintbrush to add drops). Heat ¾ cup water in the microwave. While still hot, add ¼ cup to each bowl with dye. Stir to mix.

6. On 2 ½” x 6” piece of watercolor paper, and on one of the 2” x 3” scraps, use medium paintbrush to cover entire surface with Kelly Green dye. Place on paper towel in microwave and heat for 1 minute. Set aside.

7. On 6 ½” x 3 ½” piece of watercolor paper, and on 2nd 2” x 3” scrap, use medium paintbrush to cover entire surface with mixture of Royal Blue and Denim Blue dye. Place on paper towel in microwave and heat for 1 minute. Set aside.

8. Reheat Tan dye mixture in microwave for approximately 1 minute. On 3” x 12 ½” piece of watercolor paper, and 8 1/2” x 6” sheet, use medium paintbrush to cover entire surface with Tan dye. Place on paper towel in microwave and heat for 1 minute. Set aside.

9. To create plaid patterned paper, place ruler on dyed watercolor paper from Step 8. Dip small paintbrush into Cocoa Brown dye solution, paint a stripe along edge of ruler. Repeat with Kelly Green and Royal Blue/Denim dye solutions, spacing as desired, and using assorted widths of stripes. Turn sideways and repeat to complete the plaid pattern. Place on paper towel in microwave and heat for 1 minute.

10. Cut plaid dyed paper into three equal sized rectangles, approximately 4” x 3”. Set aside.

11. Cut bronze cardstock mat and mount beneath green dyed paper.

12. Mount blue dyed paper beneath bronze paper and green dyed paper.

13. Ink Happy Father’s Day stamp with brown ink, stamp onto base of Townscape craft foam embellishment.

14. Mount Townscape dyed craft foam embellishment using foam tape centered on green paper.

15. Cut bronze cardstock to 9 ¼” x 8 ¼” and fold in half lengthwise to create card.

16. Add 3 square copper brads to 2 squares of plaid dyed paper as shown. Arrange squares of plaid dyed paper on right and left sides of card front. Mount.

17. Mount craft foam with layered mats to center of card front, overlapping plaid squares.

18. Use computer to type inside verse “to the best dad in the neighborhood!” and print directly onto 8 ½” x 6” piece of tan dyed watercolor paper. Trim to desired size.

19. On inside of card, mount plaid dyed watercolor paper as shown. Mount “To the best dad in the neighborhood” overlapping plaid paper. Add small strips of blue and green watercolor paper, layered with square brad as shown.
