Beaded Clothesline Necklace & Cuff

Step 2:

DYEING THE CLOTHESLINE:

- Wearing rubber gloves, measure and mix 1 Tablespoon Apple Green dye with 1 cup very hot water (140° F) in plastic cup; stir. Note: If water is not hot enough, heat in the microwave. In second plastic cup, measure and mix 1 Tablespoon Tangerine with 1 cup very hot water.

- Remove clothesline from water and place each end in one of the dye cups, leaving the center out of the dye solution. Allow clothesline to soak in the dye for 5 – 10 minutes or until dye migrates along clothesline.

- Remove clothesline from the Apple Green and Tangerine dye cups. Rinse clothesline in cold water until water runs clear. Remove string or rubber band.

- Prepare a third cup of dye. Measure and mix 1 Tablespoon Violet dye with 1 cup very hot water; stir. Immerse center portion of clothesline in the Violet dye for 5 – 10 minutes. The Violet dye will also migrate and blend with the other colors.

- Remove clothesline from dye cup and rinse in cold water until water runs clear. Then wash clothesline in warm water with mild detergent, rinse and air dry.

DYEING WOOD BEADS:

- Wearing rubber gloves, measure and mix 2 teaspoons Evening Blue with ½ cup very hot water. Immerse 4 wooden spool beads in dye bath for 5 – 10 minutes or until desired color is achieved. Rinse in cold water and let dry on paper towels.

- Using this same method, dye 4 wooden spool beads in Sunshine Orange. Dye 5 round wooden beads in Cherry Red (1 bead is for the cuff). Dye 3 wooden beads in Violet (1 bead is for the cuff). Note: Wooden beads tend to float so keep pushing them down in the dye solution with a spoon and turning them.

Step 3:

ASSEMBLING THE NECKLACE:

- Cut a 5 ft. length of dyed clothesline. Fold it in half, leaving one side 5” longer than the other.

Step 4:

- At the looped end, make a slip knot, leaving a loop that measures 1” on each side.

Step 5:

- String 7 dyed wooden beads on each cut end of dyed clothesline, as shown.

- Tie the ends of the dyed clothesline together in a knot. Cut off excess and add a drop of Fray Check™ to prevent fraying.

Step 6:

SEWING THE CUFF:

Sewing Machine Preparation: Set your sewing machine to the widest zigzag setting and a 1.75 stitch length. Use a thread that matches one of the colors in the dyed clothesline.

- Starting 6” from the end of the remaining dyed clothesline, take the clothesline and make a loop that will comfortably fit around your wrist. Be sure it is large enough so that it will slide on and off your wrist, but not fall off.

Step 7:

- Place the loop under the presser foot with the 6”end to the left and pointing backward.

- Stitch several stitches in place. Then continue to zigzag seven more rows around the loop, forming a cuff. Stop stitching directly opposite from where you started. Stitch several stitches in place.

Step 8:

- Remove the cuff from under the presser foot. Cut the excess clothesline, leaving a 6” tail. Bring the tails together and tie a single knot.

- String a Cherry Red bead onto one tail and tie a knot. String a Violet bead onto the other tail and tie a knot. Cut off excess and add a drop of Fray Check™ to prevent fraying
