Batik-Dyed Lampshade

Step 1:

Dyeing the Lampshade:

1. Cover work surface with a plastic table cover. Make sure to spray dye outdoors or in an area that will not spray walls. Tip: I covered a corner of my work area with a painter’s cloth to protect my spraying area.



2. Wearing disposable rubber gloves, measure 1/2 teaspoon Fuchsia dye with 1 cup hot water; stir well. Pour mixture into spray bottle. Then prepare the Purple dye in the same manner and pour into another spray bottle. Note: Make sure your spray bottles can be used with hot water before adding dye solution. Do not use boiling water in spray bottles.



3. Spray lampshade with dye, alternating Fuchsia and Purple dye solution. Let dry and repeat until desired color is reached for first layer of color.



4. On dry lampshade, draw or stencil daisy-like flowers onto lampshade using Batik-EZ resist medium. Postion flowers in a random pattern, as desired. Let resist dry completely.



5. Add additional layers of color to lampshade, again using hot water/dye mixture in a spray bottle. Set side for 30 minutes. Rinse with warm water to remove Batik-EZ, water does not need to run clear. Gently rub with a soft cloth if necessary. Let dry thoroughly. Spray a coat of clear sealer.
