It's deep into summer and what better time to dive into some fun, summer-camp style, DIY projects? Well, we thought we'd round up a few great ideas to inspire you. This first project, by Jen Goode, is the answer to all those hand-me-down T-shirts that big brothers give to their little sisters. "My youngest daughter has two older brothers, and although their T-shirts are pretty cool, she’d like something with more of a girly flare. So as a fun summer project, we decided to remove the blue boy color, redye it and add a bit of bling, turning it into a fun, girly tank!"

Jen is the owner and “doodler in charge” of JGoode Designs , a Denver-based art and design studio. She specializes in handmade crafts, graphic design and illustration. Jen loves all kinds of color, multi-media, mixing textures and materials to create interesting pieces, often featuring her own illustrations and pattern work.

Embellishing With Dyed Buttons and Lace

Edie

Why not turn a boring old jersey T into an elegant, embellished statement?  It's easy to jazz up a simple top by just adding some matching dyed fabric flowers and buttons.

I started with a Tshirt that had a cute shape but was getting a little dreary from overuse. Using scraps of jersey fabric and some recycled nylon lace, I whipped up sweet accent flowers and leaves. To top it all off, I dyed some buttons for extra texture. Lovely, right?

Whoa! I was totally struck by a bit of kosmic kismet the other day.  Just after posting my quirky, Marc Jacobs-inspired DIY sandals, I found this tutorial for these amazing T-shirt refashion sandals.  Love the idea of soft jersey wrapping around the ankle and the color is such spearminty awesomeness! Also, it crossed my mind that it would make a perfect dye project if that original T color was in need of a fun color boost.  How easy would that be, right?

Anyway, this star-crossed crafting got me curious and poking around the "nets" in search of other super-cool sandal DIY's cause there's gotta be more than a few fashionistas  trying to outsmart the fashion scene with their own renditions of couture cuties. And, wow, was I ever right and, boy, are they ever incredibly inspiring! You know I can't keep stuff like this to myself, so here's some of my faves.

See what you think...
