Hey friends, who's up for a little tie-dye fun tomorrow? Well, crafty compatriots at Jo-Ann Super Stores are hosting this fab Rit Dye demo this Saturday, June 23. Want to join in? Tickled Petal Pink for DIY Jeans

Renate

Jeans, jeans, jeans!  All the colors of the rainbow abound. Whether bold or pastel, we can't get enough variations on this fab fashion trend this summer. We're loving this lovely version by Liz Marie which you'd never guess started as very dark and not so skinny. It's a super transformation and we applaud the upcycling of a lackluster fashion yesteryear turned into a fabulous new look. After bleaching out the color, she dyed them in a sweet Petal Pink shade. Very adorable and we're kinda digging the contrasting stitching detail- a remnant of the previous life. Want to see more?  Take a peek at Liz Marie's site for the full story.

On a technical note, even though Liz's jeans came out so wonderfully, the chemicals in bleach can weaken the fabric and also sometimes effect the dye process. Just something to keep in mind if you want to try it.

Edit note: The Rit Color Remover is not recommended for use on denim blue jeans. These jeans are dyed with special indigo dyes which will NOT be lifted by our product. Sorry for any inconvenience.

It certainly is the summer of dyed jeans! We've been doing our series of color fun jeans and been noticing some super DIY from our Rit friends as well. Just check out Jamie Bennett Brunson's version of minty parfait goodness on her clever The Pinterest Project blog. She dyed up these sweet capris in a combo of Apple Green and Aquamarine Blue for this yummy pastel shade. I somehow can't stop thinking about ice cream every time I see them.

You can take a gander at the full tutorial on her site along with the fun play-by-play of her last minute color tweak. Stop by. You're sure to get inspired by these and all her other Pinteresting endeavors. As for me, I'm off to indulge in a sundae.

Hey..   it is summer after all.

How often do we say we LOVE the creative masterminds at Martha Stewart? Well, here's another brilliant, yet simple, idea to create a fun, decor accent just perfect for casual summer entertaining. Along with the dip-dyed paper bowl tutorial that was recently featured, now you can make matching bamboo placemats at the same time. Pretty nifty, right?

If you want to get in on the action, hop on over to see the full tutorial and start planning your own festive event. Just imagine all the color theme possibilities!

A Fabulously Flamenco Shower Curtain DIY

Renate

Wow, look at this most fabulous flamenco-style shower curtain created by the clever Jackie of House of Sarager. It's a stunning home dec idea inspired by the French country-chic mecca, Anthropologie. Finding their curtain a bit pricey, Jackie decided to DIY her own version with a few yards of cotton muslin and Rit dye. I think it came out pretty spectacular. Stop by her site to see the full tutorial and just how great her curtain looks next to the original Anthro version. You might want to make one too in whatever color shades you like. The possibilities are truly endless!

Bring a little nostaglic romance to your life with this elegant lace and floral bracelet. Debra Quartermain made this beauty by dyeing almost all the elements with Rit Petal Pink and Taupe dyes. We think it's just fabulous. It's always exciting to see how different materials that take the dye a bit differently and yet create a subtle monochromatic look. Actually, this might make a swell Mother's Day gift. There's still time to run to the craft store! Stop by Debra's site for the full step-by-step tutorial. It's well worth it!

On a side note, we noticed that Debra had trouble dyeing the sweet, little pearl beads in her bracelet. Through experience, we've found that all manufacturers use a slightly different plastic formula and most work but some, unfortunately, do not. We had good results with Jewelry Essentials beads found at Michael's Craft Stores which were used in this beaded bracelet tutorial

Wow, just look at these elegant ombré bowls from the ever-talented Martha Stewart! You would think that they are made of fine porcelain but actually they're simple paper bowls that she dip-dyed with Rit. Amazing, right?

We can't get over how sublime they look and what a stylish accent they would make for most any entertaining event. Head on over to see the full tutorial on Martha Stewart's website. Who knew it was so easy to get such a stunning look?

A Rainbow of DIY Dyed Wood Blocks

Renate

What could be more happy than a rainbow? Well, maybe a whole, big bin of bright rainbow DIY wood blocks! That's what Kasia of Dream Home was thinking when she made this spectacular collection of building fun for her daughter. Reminscent of her childhood toys, she decided to create her own collection to customize the colors and shapes just the way she likes and save a pretty penny to boot. We think she did a great job and it's sure to be a more treasured toy just because she put so much love in the endeavor.

You can read all about it on her blog and follow along with the step-by-step tutorial if you want to try it for yourself. One caveat that we talked with Kasia about is the sealing of the blocks afterward. She left hers unsealed and happy with the results but we found a few resources for non-toxic ways to seal wood toys that would be worth the extra step. Check them out here and here

OK, happy dyeing!

We're happy to announce the launch of Vans x RIT|Era Classic, a really fantastic collaboration with Vans Apparel. They've paired their classic boardshorts with Rit Dye to create a kit so surfers can DIY their own design for a signature look. Here's the inspiration from our friends at Vans...

"In the early days of Vans, anyone could walk into their local Vans shop to design their very own pair of custom shoes from a stock of fabrics, prints, materials and colors. In modern times, this right of personalization has fallen to the wayside in favor of mass production. This generic approach, created a backlash in the form of do-it-yourself ethos that defines surfing, skateboarding and punk rock. The Vans x RIT|Era Classic is our effort to once again share our custom culture with consumers. This spring we are excited to present the opportunity for you to turn a timeless boardshort into your own creation with a few dye packets, some creativity and a DIY attitude. The package includes one pair of white Era Classic boardshorts as well as four packs of RIT dye (red, blue, yellow and black) and a formula guide - combine that with your own imagination for a one of kind boardshort creation!"

Sounds like a serious blast, right? Well, it certainly is and that's not half the fun. If you're anywhere near Laguna Beach, CA tonight you can join the Vans gang for an offical launch party at  Thalia Surfshop. Everyone else can join in by heading to their local Vans shop or picking up a pair online. Be sure to check out the lookbook on the Vans site for cool inspiration and technique suggestions for your new boardshort creations.
