Top O’ The Mornin’ Rosette Headband

Get ready to do some dancin’ with this ribbon rosette headband, just in time for St. Patty’s day!  Made by Ann Butler by overdyeing multi-colored silk ribbon, this headband takes on some colorful shading and makes you want to kick up your heels!

Here's the tutorial:

SUPPLIES:

Dyeing 

  • Rit Liquid Dye, Kelly Green
  • Measuring Cup & Measuring Spoons
  • Plastic Container for dyeing
  • Spoon for stirring dye
  • Latex Gloves
  • Paper Towels
  • Plastic Table Cover

Headband 

  • 2 Yds.100% Silk Multi-Color Ribbon, 1 1/2” wide
  • Plastic Headband, 1” wide
  • Lucky Clover Button #2133 by Buttons, Galore & More http://www.buttonsgaloreandmore.com )
  • Small Green Rhinestone
  • Green Thread & Hand Needle
  • Ruler & Scissors
  • Craft Glue

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

 

1.  Cover work surface with a plastic table cover.  Gather your dyeing supplies.

2.  Wearing latex gloves, shake dye bottle.  Then measure 1 Tablespoon Kelly Green with 1 cup very hot water (140º F); stir well.  Note:  If water is not hot enough, heat some in the microwave or in a tea kettle.   

3.  Immerse ribbon in dye solution for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4.  Remove ribbon from dye.  Rinse in cold running water until water runs clear.  Then wash in warm soapy water, rinse and hang to dry.

5.  To finish headband:  Glue small piece of ribbon onto ends of headband.  Then glue one end of ribbon at one end of the headband and wrap ribbon around at an angle until headband is covered.  Glue end in place; let dry. 

6.  Cut 12” piece of dyed ribbon.  Make a small running stitch along bottom of one edge.  Pull thread and gather ribbon to form a rosette.

7.  Glue rosette to side of headband.  Glue rhinestone to center of  button and then glue button to center of rosette
