Tangerine Tango Overdyed Ballcap

Renate

Who's ready for more summery Tangerine Tango fashions? Well, here's an easy one that looks oh, so cool. Everytime we overdye patterns it's a fun experience because there's a bit of exciting unpredictablility involved. This time we're overdyeing a white ballcap which had a silver metallic design on it. What will happen to the silver design??? We didn't know until we dyed it with our sumptuous Tangerine Tango formula. It's color recipe #98 in our ColoRit Color Guide and, of course, the hottest color of the year

As you can see, that shiny bright silver turned a lux golden tone which sets off the orangey-red perfectly! Pretty neat, right? We thought so and it's a great color punch to accent a sporty summer outfit this season. We've got the tutorial handy so you can try it out too. Ready?

Here's the tutorial...

SUPPLIES:

  • Rit Liquid Dye:Tangerine & Sunshine Orange
  • White Cotton Ballcap w/metallic pattern, if desired
  • Measuring Cup & Spoons
  • Large Stirring Spoon
  • 2-Gallon Container for dyeing
  • Rubber Gloves
  • Plastic Table Cover

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.  Prewash cap to remove any finishes that may interfere with dye absorption.

2.  Cover work surface with a plastic table cover and grab those plastic gloves.

3. Let's get ready to dye!  Wearing rubber gloves, shake, measure and mix 3 Tbls Tangerine and 3 Tbls Sunshine Orange in 1 gallon of very hot 140˚F water in a large dye container.  Stir to mix well.

4.  Wet cap in warm water and immerse in the dye bath, stirring continuously. Also, make sure to keep the whole hat remains submerged by pushing down with the stirring spoon. This will help to achieve an even color. Allow the cap to remain in the dye bath until the desired shade is achieved.  Color will appear lighter when dry.

5.  Remove the cap from the dye bath and rinse in cold water running water until the water runs clear.  Then wash in warm water with mild detergent, rinse, dry.
