Make a Decorative Dye-Stained Wood Tray for Gift-Giving!

Looking for a fun holiday hostess gift?  Start with an unfinished wooden tray and dye-stain it a unique color, like Purple!  Rit colors the wood, yet allows the beauty of the wood grain to show through.  For best results, mix the dye with a small amount of hot water and apply dye hot for better absorption.  Test dye color on the underside of the wood tray. If the color is too light, add more dye; if color is too dark, add more water. Dye will appear lighter when dry. After the wood dries, seal it with one or two coats of polyurethane.  To personalize the tray for gift-giving, have a piece of clear glass cut to fit inside the bottom. This will protect the bottom of the tray, but makes it more versatile because you can slip photos, holiday decorations, or artwork underneath the glass to fit the occasion!  Click here for the full tutorial.
