How To Dye Up An Egg-cellent Easter!

Renate

Wow, wow, wow!! Just take a look at all these beautiful Easter eggs. Those are not your average pastel pink, blue and yellow eggs that we usually see this time of year. There is something much more designerly about these eggs.

They were dyed by Suzonne Stirling for a super DIY photospread in Family Circle magazine this month. She dyed these lovelies with Rit dye and used our ColoRit Color Guide to create stunning custom colors. She has a great tutorial and shows off the color recipes she used. If you grab a hard copy of the magazine, you'll see how these colors can be a compelling element in some super holiday decor projects. Just imagine an Easter centerpiece adorned with an earthy Chile Red #143 or bold Cabaret Pink #591 or maybe a cool Cockatoo Blue #572. If you can dream it, you can dye it!

As an added bonus, Suzonne also created amazing designs on her dyed eggs using patterned tights and lace. This is such a clever idea and gives the eggs a sweet, nostalgic look. She presents that full tutorial on her blog, Urban Comfort. So, go take a peek.

Of course, all of these eggs are meant to be purely decorative and besides, they're much too pretty to eat. Rit Dye is non-toxic but it's not a food-safe colorant. It's recommended to blow out the contents of the eggs before dyeing so you can reuse them year after year for all types of DIY decor projects. The possibilities are truly endless!
