Fake Blood & Ghostly Flowers Create Creepy Amore!

Dianne

Want to share a little creepy Halloween love this year? Try making some “faux blood” using ICE Resin combined with a few drops of Scarlet Rit Liquid Dye. That's what our friend, Cindi Bisson conjured up for this spooky Halloween decor. It’s so easy to create a spooky bouquet of “ghosty flowers” with blood flowing over the edge. Silk artificial flowers from a season gone by get new life (or afterlife...) with Black Liquid Dye. Remember this is a great way to custom color artificial flowers for any occasion.

Faux blood is a fun accent to all your Halloween activities. Applied to paper crafts, it gives the effect of fresh blood splatters. Or, fill a glass vial or test tube with “faux blood” to make an unexpected jewelry piece. When adhered to skin, “faux blood” makes a fabulous vampire bite or wound when it’s costume time! Watch for an upcoming episode of When Creativity Knocks where Cindi shows how to make a unique pendant filled with faux blood!

SUPPLIES:

Rit Liquid Dye: Scarlet & Black
ICE Resin, 1 oz. kit (www.iceresin.com)
Glass Vase
6 Artificial Silk Flowers
Wax paper
Toothpicks
Measuring cup
Measuring spoons
Small mixing bowls
Rubber gloves
Paper towels
Microwave oven

INSTRUCTIONS:

How to Make Faux Blood

1. Mix a small amount of ICE Resin, following the manufacturer’s instructions. The pre-measured 1 ounce kit is easy to use.

2. Wearing craft gloves, dip a toothpick into Scarlet liquid dye and then add a drop to the resin, stirring and adding additional drops until desired shade is achieved. It is important to add drops one at a time as too much dye will affect the curing process of the resin.

3. This vase was created by mixing the faux blood, placing the vase on wax paper, and pouring small amounts on the outside rim of the top of the vase. The resin runs down the sides of the glass. Additional dyed resin was poured around the bottom of the vase, touching the vase itself, and allowed to dry to create a puddle of blood. dyed “ghosty flowers” and you have a gruesome home decor accent.

To Dye Flowers

1. Wearing craft gloves, measure and mix 1 Tablespoon Black liquid dye with 1 cup of very hot water; stir well.

2. Immerse fabric flower into dye solution and let sit approximately 15 minutes. Check for desired shade, allowing flower to soak longer, if needed. These roses began as a pale pink. After dyeing, the flowers turned a dusky black, which resembles dark ghosty shadows.

3. Repeat until you have 6 flowers, heating dye in microwave approximately 1 minute before inserting each flower. Flowers must be immersed in hot dye solution.

4. Place dyed flowers onto paper towels and allow to air dry.

5. Add your shadow flowers to the bloody vase and display in your home or present to someone you love for a little “Creepy Amore.”
