Dye Up Some Sweet Stripes On A Wood Bangle!

Renate

Ready for more fashion fun with that tantalizing Color of the Year, Tangerine Tango? Of course, you are! How about a trendy, stripey, dyed wood bangle? It's so simple to dye wood with Rit. Whether you dip it or paint it, it'll be hard to make just one especially since they look so great stacked in many colors and patterns.

This one was dye-painted with the Rit Tangerine Tango recipe of equal parts of Sunshine Orange and Tangerine dyes. Then stripes were painted using a mixture of Fuchsia Dye and Mod Podge sealer. Couldn't be easier!

Wanna see how...

SUPPLIES:
  • Rit Liquid Dyes: Sunshine Orange, Tangerine, Fuchsia
  • DIY Bangles - Unfinished Wood Bangle
  • Measuring Cup & Spoons
  • Small Plastic Container & Flat Dish
  • Fine Sandpaper
  • Mod Podge Sealer
  • Foam Brush & Small Artist Brush
  • Rubber Gloves
  • Plastic Table Cover
INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Protect work surface with a plastic cover.

2) If necessary, sand wood lightly to remove any rough spots. These DIY Bangles are great because they come pre-sanded and you can get going fast.

3) Shake liquid dye before measuring. Wearing rubber gloves, measure and mix 1 tsp Sunshine Orange + 1 tsp Tangerine dyes with 1 cup hot water (140º F). Stir well.

4)  Wearing rubber gloves, paint the dye onto the bangle evenly. You can recoat for a deeper color.

5) On a flat plastic dish, arrange about a teaspoon's size drop of Fuchsia dye next to a teaspoon's size drop of Mod Podge. With the paintbrush, mix the dye and Mod Podge in small amounts. Paint fun stripes or any design you like on the bangle. Dip your brush in water to thin the consistency as you work if necessary.  Tinting the Mod Podge is great for adding fine details and helps control color bleed.

Note: You can use any color for your stripes that will blend well with the underlying orange shade.

6)To seal dye-stained wood, apply one or two coats of the Mod Podge sealer.  We do love our Mod Podge!
