Create An Enchanting "Love With All Your Heart" Card

Dianne

Cindi Bisson dyed heart-shaped paper doilies, parchment paper and white card stock to make this pretty, dimensional Valentine’s Day card.  After the white card stock dried, Cindi noticed that the diamond-shaped patterns in the paper towel were subtly transferred to the card stock, resulting in a watermarked effect. She also discovered Rit dye could be applied to rubber stamps right out of the bottle and stamped onto parchment paper and then heat set in the microwave. What a sweet card to make for someone special!

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.  Cover work surface with plastic table cover.

2.  Wearing craft gloves, mix 2 tablespoons Petal Pink dye with 2 cups very hot water (140º F); pour into  shallow container.

3.  Immerse one paper heart doily in dye bath until it absorbs the dye.  Remove and set on paper towels to dry.   Note:  To speed up the drying process, dyed paper can be placed in the microwave on high for 1 minute.

4.  Immerse 8 1/2” x 11” sheet of parchment paper until it absorbs the dye.   Remove from dye and place on paper towels to dry.

5.  Wearing craft gloves, mix 1 teaspoon Violet dye with 1 cup very hot water; pour into shallow container.  Immerse second paper heart doily in Violet dye bath.  Remove and set on paper towels to dry.

6.  Immerse 8 1/2” x 11” sheet of white card stock in Violet dye bath.   Remove and set on paper towels to dry.   When dry, lift from paper towel to reveal the pattern which has transferred from the paper towel to the dyed card stock.

7.  Cut gold card stock to 6 1/4” x 6 1/4”.

8.  Cut parchment paper to 10 3/4” x 5 1/2”.

9.  Use small artist’s paint brush to apply Violet dye directly from the bottle onto “love” rubber stamp.   Stamp onto dry, dyed Petal Pink parchment paper repeatedly to form overall background pattern.  Re-apply dye between some stampings, but allow it to be lighter on others.   Place stamped parchment paper on paper towels and heat set in the microwave on high for 1 minute.

10.  Cut piece of stamped, dyed Petal Pink parchment to 5 1/2” x 6”.  Measure over approximately 1/2” and score.

11.  Cut dyed Violet cardstock to approximately 5 3/4” x 5 3/4”.  Mount centered on front of gold card stock.

12.  Cut second piece of dyed Violet cardstock to 4 1/2” x 5”.

13.  Use paintbrush to apply Violet dye directly to verse stamps (“love” and “with all your heart”), stamp onto scrap piece of dyed Petal Pink parchment paper.  Trim to fit, as shown on inside of card.

14.  Mount larger piece of stamped parchment paper (with scored edge folded inward) centered on Violet card stock.

15.  Mount Violet dyed heart doily to center of card front.

16.  Gather small bunch of faux flowers, tie with ribbon and mount on Violet heart doily, as shown.

17.  Mount smaller piece of stamped Petal Pink parchment paper, against folded edge, over dyed Violet card stock.

18.  Mount smaller piece of dyed Violet card stock over patterned paper.

19.  Measure and cut piece of ribbon 6” in length to fit vertically on inside of card and mount approximately 3/8” from right edge.

20.  Mount dyed Petal Pink heart doily to inside of card, as shown.  Mount “love with all your heart” sentiment and single small faux flower, as shown.

21.  Use gold leafing pen to edge around Petal Pink parchment paper.
