Create a Colorful Thanksgiving Table for Family & Friends

Here are some last minute ideas for adding a crafty touch of color to your Thanksgiving table.

Did you know Rit dyes watercolor paper beautifully?  Delores Ruzicka created Thanksgiving place cards, invitations and a flower pot decoration using Rit Dye, watercolor paper and a washable resist.  It’s so much fun!

Delores started by drawing pumpkin shapes with veins, stems and leaves on watercolor paper using Batik-EZ Resist Medium. Be sure to draw lots of pumpkins in different sizes so you can make place cards and a table decoration.  Let the resist air dry or speed up the drying with a hair dryer.  After the resist dries, Delores dye-painted Rit Golden Yellow right out of the bottle over all the pumpkin shapes, including the leaves.  Then she dye-painted over the yellow dye in the pumpkin areas with Scarlet to make an orange pumpkin color.  Then she dye-painted Kelly Green dye over the yellow in the stem and leaf areas to make a lively green.  And, finally she added a touch of Purple dye for highlights. To dry, place dye-painted paper in the microwave for one minute. Then gently remove the resist medium with water and a sponge.  Then dry again in the microwave.  Cut paper into desired shapes and personalize with names of your guests.
