Belting Out The Fashion With Tangerine Tango!

Renate

Need to colorize a boring cotton belt?  Now, you can add a bold, color pop with a dye dunking in Tangerine Tango, Pantone's hot Color of the Year!  Just look how it sets off this classic, neutral-grey look!  No need to buy all new clothes when you can create color magic with Rit. Update your wardrobe by adding a few accents in trendy new shades for the Fall season.

We're making it easy by giving you a ton of dye recipes to mix up your fave colors in our ColoRit Color Formula Guide. Maybe some Tangerine Tango? It's #98 on our Orange Palette and we can't get enough of this fiery mix of Tangerine and Sunshine Orange dyes.

Wanna get started? Here's the tutorial...

SUPPLIES:

  • Rit Liquid Dye: Tangerine & Sunshine Orange
  • Cotton Woven Belt
  • 1 Gallon Plastic Container
  • Measuring Cup & Spoons
  • Mixing Spoon
  • Orange Acrylic Paint
  • Small Paintbrush
  • Rubber Gloves
  • Plastic Table Cover

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Cover your work surface with plastic and grab those rubber gloves.

2. Moisten belt. Shake, measure and mix 2 Tbls Tangerine + 2 Tbls Sunshine Orange in 2 quarts of very hot 140F water. Stir to mix well. Immerse the belt into the dye bath and stir continuously for even dyeing for about 10 minutes. When the desired shade is achieved, remove from dye bath.

3. Rinse in cool water until water runs clear. Wash in warm water with mild detergent and let dry.

4. Now, this belt had details on either end which are made of vinyl. Vinyl is one of the synthetic materials, along with polyester and acrylic, which Rit will not dye. As you can see, only a slight tinting is visible. So, what to do? Let's paint it!

5. Using a small paint brush for control, simply paint the two ends of the belt with a matching orange (or a bright contrasting color, if you like). Let the paint dry and you're done! Go rock your beautiful new belt.
