Batik-Dyed Snowflake Card & Gift Tag

Dianne

Delores Ruzicka discovered that Rit dye works well on 90 lb. watercolor paper and has made many greeting cards using Rit.  On this Batik-Dyed Snowflake card and matching gift tag, she randomly stamped snowflakes using Crafter’s Choice Batik-EZ Resist Medium (www.crafterspick.com) on the watercolor paper. Then she mixed a small amount of liquid dye   with ½ cup hot water and poured it into a spray bottle. Delores likes to use several colors for added depth.  Here she sprayed Rit Evening Blue, Royal Blue and Purple dye around the resist to create a batik-like effect. The next step is to heat the spray-dyed paper in the microwave for 1 minute.  Then rinse off the excess dye and resist under running water. Then dry the dyed paper in the microwave.  After the paper is batik-dyed, you can cut it to any size and embellish with special sentiments, beads, buttons and more!  Delores recommends dyeing more paper than you need so you always have some extra on hand for last minute gift-giving!
