- RIT Liquid Dye: Yellow and Kelly Green
- RIT Powdered Dye: Golden Yellow and Scarlet
- 2 white hand towels with wide woven bands, 100% cotton by Charles Craft
- 1 yd. white 100% cotton eyelet lace, 2 1/2" wide
- 1 yd. white 100% cotton twisted cord or trim
- 1 spool white cotton or cotton-covered polyester thread
- Straight pins
- Shears or scissors
- Glass measuring cups, measuring spoons, and metal spoon
- Rubber gloves
- Dishpan or glass container
- Salt and liquid detergent
- Wash and dry towels, lace, and trim before beginning.
- Cut lace and trim 1/2" longer than width of towel, to allow for turning under ends.
- Press under ends of lace and trim 1/4". At the top of wide woven band on towel, covering raw edge of lace.
- Dye towels using the following RIT Custom Color Recipes.
Chartreuse (Liquid Dye): 1/2 cup Yellow and 1 Tbsp. Kelly Green
Orange (Powdered Dye): 1 pkg. Golden Yellow and 1 tsp. Scarlet
For powdered dye, pour dye into a glass measuring cup following recipe above. Add 2 cups of very hot tap water. Stir until dye is dissolved. Fill dishpan with 3 quarts of very hot water. Add 1/8 cup of salt, squirt of liquid detergent, and dissolved dye; stir. Wet towel and add to dyebath, stirring constantly for 10 to 30 minutes, until desired color is achieved. Rinse in warm water until clear. Wash in warm water with detergent and dry, following package instructions.
For liquid dye, pour dye into a glass measuring cup following recipe above. Add 2 cups of very hot tap water, stir, then continue as directed for powdered dye.
